Dear METI Certified Professionals,

For more than three decades, Medical Exercise Specialists have played a vital role in bridging the gap between healthcare and fitness. Your commitment to professionalism, client safety, and measurable functional outcomes has helped elevate the standard of care for individuals transitioning from rehabilitation into long-term wellness.

As part of our commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards, we are pleased to provide a clear and flexible pathway for renewing your Medical Exercise Specialist certification — designed to support your continued growth while respecting the realities of your professional and personal responsibilities.

Renewal Requirements

To renew your certification, the following components must be completed every two years:

1️⃣ Renewal Fee

A renewal fee of $50 is required to initiate the renewal process. This fee has been intentionally kept low to ensure accessibility and to avoid placing unnecessary financial burden on our professionals.

2️⃣ MedExPRO Ethics Training

Completion of the MedExPRO Ethics Training Course is required. This one-hour program reinforces the ethical standards necessary when working with medically referred clients, healthcare providers, and insurance carriers, ensuring continued professionalism across all settings.

3️⃣ Continuing Education — 10 Contact Hours

You must complete 10 hours of relevant professional development, which may be fulfilled through any combination of the following options:

Coursework
Complete medical exercise or post-rehab related courses, workshops, or educational programs offered by METI or other qualified providers.

Professional Observation
Observe licensed medical professionals such as physical therapists, physicians, chiropractors, or nurses in a rehabilitation or clinical setting. A verification form signed by the supervising professional is required.

Volunteer Service (New Option)
Provide unpaid service in a community setting such as a senior center, nonprofit organization, shelter, church, or wellness outreach program. This option was added to recognize the powerful role exercise plays in supporting physical and mental well-being within communities.

Volunteer hours must be documented on official organizational letterhead and verified by a leadership representative.

Legacy Professional Recognition

If you completed your original certification through one of our legacy on-site programs, we extend our sincere appreciation for helping build the foundation of the medical exercise profession. Legacy professionals may qualify for a special renewal pathway by completing two modules within the online training series. Please contact us with a copy of your original certificate for details.

Professional Scope Reminder

Your certification as a METI Medical Exercise Specialist confirms your expertise in delivering structured exercise programming for clients with medical conditions following discharge from medical care.

This credential does not authorize the practice of medicine, physical therapy, chiropractic care, or any diagnostic services. Medical clearance and appropriate communication with the client’s healthcare provider remain essential components of professional practice.
