Medical Exercise/Post Rehab Renewal
Certification renewal is required of all Medical Exercise Specialists, Post Rehab Conditioning Specialists and Medical Exercise Program Directors. Whether you attended one of our onsite workshops, or completed the MES or PRCS via VHS or DVD, or used the online platform, the renewal process works for you.
As a result of Covid, we have made some changes to the renewal process to make it easier. For all MESs, PRCSs and MEPDs a combination of 5 hours of observation or MET course work is required to renew.
The 5 hour combination includes observation hours in a physical therapy, sports medicine, nursing home, outpatient rehab setting under the supervision of a licensed medical professional (physical therapist, occupational therapist, chiropractor, nurse (LPN or RN), physician (MD, DO, ND), athletic trainer (ATC) and/or massage therapist. We require medical licensure of the practitioner to ensure the observation hours are based on sound clinical concepts.
The MET course work, which may be part of the combination of the 5 hours, must be related to some aspect of medical exercise training (within the scope of practice of the MedXPRO) and also must be taught by a licensed medical professional (same as the course work requirement).
If you certified prior to 2012, once your submit your renewal fee, you will receive access to the Medical Exercise Foundations course.
Medical Exercise Ethics Course
In addition to the 5 hours of observation and/or course work, beginning in February 2022, everyone must complete the Medical Exercise Professional Ethics course. The MET ethics course reviews the 30 MET ethical principles.
The MET ethics course includes:
- 30 Ethical Standards for Medical Exercise Professionals
- In-depth discussions of their real world application of the MET ethical principles
- Competency quiz (a certificate of completion is provided to submit with your renewal documents).
The ethics course takes about 60 minutes. Passing the quiz is required for renewal.
